City officials say that a new 81-unit market rate apartment complex at the former Boston Store property in downtown Sheboygan will break ground in June and should open about a year later.

The timeline comes after the proposal by Madison-based Oakbrook Corp. received final approval earlier this month by the city’s Plan Commission and Architectural Review Board.

“This has been a number one goal to get more people living downtown,” said Chad Pelishek, the city’s development director. “I think it’s a great use for revitalizing that area of downtown.”

Pelishek said construction won’t keep the Levitt Amp concert series from being held on the former Boston Store site. The weekly outdoor concerts will now shift to the south end of the property, with the stage located at the corner of New York Avenue and Seventh Street.
