A consignment shop that would sell artwork and handmade products from local artists has been proposed at the former Jumes Restaurant building in downtown Sheboygan.

The proposed 3,500-square-foot shop, called Art & Soul Studio, would sell a range of items, including original photography, paintings, woodwork, jewelry and home décor produced by local artists, students and other groups.

Artist bios would accompany each work to help promote the local arts community, and the building would also include space for workshops and other events.

“There are a lot of artists out there that are looking for opportunities, and there are talented people out there that want to sell their work, but they just don’t have the means to do that,” said Patrick Ortlieb, who will co-own the store with his wife, Linda.

Ortlieb is in the process of buying the building, which is located at the corner of Eighth Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. If the deal goes through, he hopes to open by late spring or early summer.

The building, which Ortlieb believes dates back to the turn of the century, has been vacant since Jumes closed in 2011. The restaurant had been in business and operated by the same family since 1929.
