National organization names Sheboygan Falls company as 2011 Employer of the Year
SHEBOYGAN FALLS – Governor Scott Walker today congratulated Johnsonville Sausage of Sheboygan Falls for earning distinction as the 2011 National Association of State Workforce Agencies (NASWA) National Employer of the Year.
"Johnsonville Sausage is a true Wisconsin success story, and its achievements are reflective of the top-notch workforce we have in our state," Governor Walker said. "This award recognizes the tremendous impact that one employer can play in creating and retaining good, family-supporting jobs. Employers like Johnsonville Sausage play a vital role in advancing job creation and economic growth in Wisconsin, and we need to continue supporting a business climate that supports job creation and retention."
The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) nominated Johnsonville Sausage for the national award, which recognizes an employer that demonstrates outstanding accomplishments resulting in a positive impact on its workforce, industry and community. NASWA, a membership organization consisting of state workforce development agencies across the country, announced the award this week during its national conference in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Governor Walker met with Johnsonville executives today to commend them for earning the award and for the company’s contributions to Wisconsin’s economy.
"DWD was eager to nominate Johnsonville Sausage for its strong partnership in training and certifying workers to ensure the highest levels of quality for their employees and their products," DWD Secretary Scott Baumbach said. "Workforce training has been a critical part of Johnsonville Sausage’s success, and we look forward to continuing to work with them through the Wisconsin Job Service system to find and retain the skilled workers they need."
Johnsonville Sausage uses the National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC), a nationally-recognized standard that benchmarks individual achievement in reading, simple math and locating information, to focus on finding the best employees. Johnsonville served as a pilot employer for the NCRC program prior to its adoption statewide in 2010. Since its adoption of the NCRC, Johnsonville has awarded 215 certificates to potential and incumbent employees certifying their readiness for work.
Johnsonville also received the 2011 "Futuremakers Partner" Award from the Wisconsin Technical College System for its collaboration with Lakeshore Technical College. Johnsonville worked with Lakeshore Technical College to help develop and teach a class in high-speed production.
