Investment in the future: $150,000 grant to fund downtown promotion effort

Plymouth has received a $150,000 private grant to launch a new two-year pilot program aimed at bolstering its downtown.

City officials say a portion of the money will be used to hire a part-time downtown business manager who will be charged with linking new business prospects to vacant spaces, promoting the downtown and identifying the needs of existing merchants.

The program is aimed at aiding the downtown as it continues to climb back from the 2007-2009 recession.

“There’s been a reset after the recession, and there’s a new world today, and it’s about figuring out how can our downtown be successful moving forward,” City Administrator Brian Yerges said.
