SHEBOYGAN – A small manufacturing startup has begun assembling and distributing industrial-grade LED light fixtures from a north-side warehouse.

The company, ePower Manufacturing, launched in January and produces interior and exterior LED lights designed for paper mills and foundries, which officials say represents an underserved market in the otherwise competitive LED industry.

“There was a gap in the market,” said founder Tim Wasmer. “It’s a very small niche for most of the bigger companies. It’s too small for them to spend any time on it.”

The company currently operates from a 20,000-square-foot leased space at 3115 N. 21st St. It began with five employees and Wasmer expects to create about 20 jobs there in the coming years as popularity grows for LED lights in commercial settings.

The startup received a $300,000 economic development loan from the city’s Redevelopment Authority in early April to help ramp up operations.
