Sargento to expand in Hilbert, add 140 jobs
HILBERT — More jobs are headed to the area as a local cheesemaker expands.
Sargento Foods is doubling the workforce at its Hilbert plant.
The help wanted signs won't likely go up until next year, but Hilbert is already looking forward to a cheese plant expansion.
The expansion will more than double the current workforce at Sargento in Hilbert. 135 employees currently work there. The company says it wants to hire an additional 140.
For Hilbert's Village President Mark Breckheimer, the Sargento expansion is very good news.
"You hear all these places cutting back, but to hear someone continually expanding, they recently expanded in other towns as well. So it's great for our community. It's great for Sargento as well. It'll hopefully bring in new people and faces to town," he told FOX 11.
The Plymouth-based company told us there is a strong demand right now for its natural cheese products. Its leaders said the supply chain needs to keep up with that demand and they decided Hilbert is the place.
